Chelsea were in contact with Barcelona through intermediaries over the weekend in their bid to land Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

The Gabonese striker is thought to be a key target for Thomas Tuchel as he looks to improve his forward line.

What is the latest news involving Aubameyang?

As per The Telegraph, Barcelona are expecting Chelsea to make an offer for Aubameyang this week.

In terms of how much they are looking for, the same outlet states that the La Liga club want £21m if they are to sell the 33-year-old this summer.

While Aubameyang only joined Barcelona in the previous transfer window, his future at the Spotify Camp Nou has come into doubt following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.

He is now a priority for Tuchel, Romano recently revealed on Twitter.

What has Romano said about Aubameyang to Chelsea?

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea have been in discussions with Barcelona about signing Aubameyang.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer expert said: "For Aubameyang, there were contacts between Chelsea and Barcelona during the weekend. On Sunday, through intermediaries, there were discussions about the conditions of the deal."

How could Chelsea line up with Aubameyang?

If Aubameyang arrives at Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes, a front line of the former Arsenal captain, Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount is what Tuchel could opt for.

Aubameyang is a proven goalscorer, netting 299 times in his career, so you would expect him to start down the middle with Sterling and Mount playing either side of him in the Blues' 3-4-3/3-4-2-1 formation.

Kai Havertz is not going to give up his spot without a fight, though. While he was not able to register in that crazy 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday, he still managed to put in a really good performance overall.

As per WhoScored, no player managed to make more dribbles than the German (four), while he also won the most aerial duels in his side (five). It was a pretty complete centre-forward display from him that was probably just missing a goal.

Still, if Chelsea are to compete for the Premier League title this season, they need to find an attacker who is going to find the back of the net on a regular basis. Therefore, bringing in Aubameyang could be a good move.

Having scored 23 goals fewer than Manchester City last term, he could be the man to help Tuchel's side close that gap.
