Manchester United target Alvaro Morata would be "attracted" by a return to the Premier League, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The experienced frontman spent 18 months at Chelsea between 2018 and 2019 and has been linked with a return to English football's top-flight.

What's the latest news involving Morata?

Having failed to sign Darwin Nunez and withdrawn their interest in Marko Arnautovic, Erik ten Hag is still desperately trying to bring a striker to Old Trafford before the window closes on 1 September.

United have lost their opening two games and sit bottom of the Premier League following defeats to Brighton and Brentford.

But ESPN believe the Red Devils have been offered the chance to sign Morata, who's scored 138 senior goals across spells with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Chelsea.

Morata, who is currently playing for Atletico and scored twice in their opening day victory over Getafe on Monday, has spent the last two seasons on loan at Juventus from the Spanish giants.

But with one year remaining on his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano, the 29-year-old could be a cheap deal for United, who are running out of time to bolster their attacking options.

Morata struggled in the Premier League, registering just 16 goals in 47 league games for Chelsea, but Romano reckons that returning to England would appeal to the Spain international.

What did Romano say about Morata?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "They are still in the market for a striker, but at the moment nothing has been decided.

"All of these players have different situations, for example, Alvaro Morata I'm told would be attracted by the Premier League move, but at the same time he's an important player for Atletico Madrid."

How did Morata perform last season?

Morata enjoyed a successful campaign on his return to Juventus in 2020-2021, scoring 20 goals, the joint-best tally of his career, and laying on 12 assists to help the Old Lady win the Coppa Italia.

But Morata was nowhere near as prolific last term, netting 12 goals in 48 matches. His nine Serie A goals was bettered only by Paulo Dybala (10), while his seven top-flight assists was the best in the squad, but one goal every four games is quite underwhelming for someone of his ability.

Morata started this season in the perfect way with a brace in Atletico's 3-0 victory at Getafe on the opening day in La Liga, but his goal record remains iffy, which is why he might be a very risky signing for United.
