Manchester United have ‘been offered’ the chance to sign Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas in recent days, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils are known to be in the market for attacking reinforcements and have been heavily tipped to bring in a new forward due to Edinson Cavani’s departure and the uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo.

What is the latest news involving Man Utd?

United made a surprise bid for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic following their opening-day defeat at the hands of Brighton before ending their pursuit over fan concerns.

And writing in his column for CaughtOffside, Romano revealed that a handful of other attackers have been presented to the Old Trafford outfit since ending their interest in the Austria international.

“A number of big-name strikers were offered to Manchester United following the collapse of negotiations for Arnautovic,” said the reliable reporter.

“Atletico Madrid still hope to keep Alvaro Morata, while Mauro Icardi is out of the PSG project and has been offered to many clubs, but there are still no negotiations underway.

“Raul De Tomas is still available on the transfer market and Man United have been advised of the player’s availability.”

What has Romano said about De Tomas?

Spanish outlet COPE claim that United are keen on signing De Tomas, with the Catalan outfit reportedly demanding between €25 million (£21m) and €30m (£25m) to sanction a deal.

And Romano has informed GiveMeSport that it is now up to Erik ten Hag’s charges whether they make a move for the Spain international or not.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “Raul de Tomas is another player that's been offered to Manchester United.

“So, they have many options on the table, but it's up to them now to decide because many agents are proposing players but still nothing advanced.”

Would De Tomas be a good signing?

De Tomas rose through the ranks of boyhood club Real Madrid yet only made one senior appearance for Los Blancos, embarking on a series of loan spells.

However, the 5 foot 10 marksman has certainly found his best form at Espanyol, firing them to the second-tier title in 2020/21 with 23 goals in 37 league games after bagging just five times in the previous campaign.

De Tomas then made his mark in La Liga last season, registering 17 strikes and three assists in 34 top-flight fixtures, cementing himself as one of the division's top strikers and comfortably outscoring fellow United target Matheus Cunha.

It’s debatable whether he fits the mould Ten Hag is looking for at United, but De Tomas would surely provide an improved goal threat at the top end of the pitch for the struggling English giants.
