Leeds United are 'definitely looking' at the possibility of luring Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner to Elland Road, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Whites have already been busy in the summer window and parted with close to £100million, but head coach Jesse Marsch could add further reinforcements to his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What's the latest news involving Wagner?

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has revealed that Leeds are in ongoing talks over Philadelphia Union star Wagner and Marsch is driving negotiations.

Jim Curtin, the Major League Soccer franchise's boss, has confirmed that he has been in discussions with Marsch and that the 25-year-old is on the Yorkshire giants' radar.

Although it is understood that Leeds have not made an official offer for Wagner yet, it seems they are progressing in their bid to land their target.

That is because Forbes journalist Manuel Veth has claimed there has been 'good communication' between the Premier League outfit and the German's representatives.

However, Leeds are not Wagner's only suitors as Portuguese giants Benfica and Croatian outfit Dinamo Zagreb have also shown an interest.

What has Dean Jones said about Wagner?

Jones understands that Leeds are mulling over whether to head to Philadelphia Union with an offer for Wagner as the deadline draws closer.

The transfer insider feels Marsch is particularly keen to bolster his left-back options after Junior Firpo picked up an injury during pre-season and is expected to be out of action for another month.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "It's definitely one that they're looking at. We knew that this was a position that they were looking to fill.

"The Junior Firpo situation has probably pushed them into this way of thinking more."

Would a move for Wagner make sense?

Wagner may not have Premier League experience, but he has made 198 senior appearances over the course of his career and established himself as a reliable defender.

That is emphasised by the fact that scout and L’Equipe columnist Kevin Nieto described the Philadelphia Union man as 'the best left-back in MLS'.

While Wagner is German, he has grown accustomed to life in the United States and there has been a growing influence from the country since Marsch was appointed as Leeds' boss in February.

Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams - who are United States internationals - have both made the switch to Elland Road since the transfer window reopened, so a move for Wagner would be in line with the Whites' business so far.
