Celtic signing Ross Barkley is a move that would "suit all parties", according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Ange Postecoglou has welcomed seven new players on board this summer, although the Hoops boss wants one more face through the building, with Chelsea ace Barkley emerging as an option.

The report claims that Celtic are interested in signing the ex-Everton star on a season-long loan deal, with the midfielder in the final year of his Stamford Bridge contract.

Barkley is free to leave Chelsea having started just one Premier League game last season, part of only 14 appearances under Thomas Tuchel.

However, while Jones reckons that a switch to Parkhead would be good for both Barkley and Celtic, he's unsure whether the Glasgow giants will be able to afford his £120,000 per-week wages, with captain Callum McGregor (£30,000 per-week), currently the club's highest paid player.

What did Jones say about Barkley?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think this is a move that suits all parties, but the big sticking point is whether Celtic can find a way to pay his wages.

"I think if it can get done, it will, because his agent has been working to find him a new club because they know he's got no future at Chelsea."

Who else is interested in Barkley?

Despite Barkley's lack of involvement at Chelsea in recent years, the midfielder still has great pedigree having played more than 200 times in the Premier League and won 33 England caps.

During his top-flight career, Barkley has registered 60 goal contributions and possesses obvious qualities in the attacking areas, even though he hasn't produced a season of note in the league since he left Everton.

Regardless, with Barkley available on loan and then potentially a free transfer when his deal expires next summer, he's still got plenty of Premier League interest.

According to Simon Phillips, Barkley will leave Chelsea before the deadline, and along with Celtic is attracting interest from Brighton, Newcastle, West Ham, Everton, and Aston Villa, where he spent the 2020-2021 season on loan.
