Manchester United have held "internal discussions" with Erik ten Hag about the possibility of signing PSV winger Cody Gakpo.

The Red Devils manager is still waiting to make attacking reinforcements but is interested in linking up with his fellow Dutchman at Old Trafford.

What's the latest news involving Gakpo?

It's been a dreadful start to Ten Hag's United career, with his side losing both of their Premier League games this season, conceding six goals in the process.

But it's not just defensively where United have struggled. They've scored just once in three hours of top-flight action and even that was an own goal against Brighton.

As a result, Ten Hag is working desperately to improve his squad before next month's deadline, with time running out for the 52-year-old to bring in reinforcements.

One player who is of interest, though, is Gakpo, who's earned rave reviews following his explosive form for PSV in the Eredivisie.

According to Sky Sports, United are 'preparing a move' for the 23-year-old, who is valued at £35m and shares the same agency as Ten Hag.

United have been interested in signing Ajax star Antony throughout the summer but have been unable to agree a fee with the Dutch giants, with Gakpo seen as a cheaper alternative to the Brazil international.

And Romano reckons that in-house talks have taken place with the Old Trafford hierarchy about the possibility of bringing Gakpo to the club.

What did Romano say about Gakpo?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "For Cody Gakpo, there has been an internal discussion at Manchester United and they have spoke to Erik ten Hag about the possibility."

Why do Manchester United want Gakpo?

Gakpo might have no Premier League experience, but his attacking output in recent years is incredibly impressive.

Last season, the 6 ft 2 winger registered 21 goals, a career high, and laid on 15 assists for his teammates as PSV won the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield, came second in the Dutch top-flight and reached the quarter finals of the Europa Conference League.

Gakpo has started this campaign in similar form, scoring three goals and adding three assists in six games to help PSV retain the Johan Cruyff Shield and move within 180 minutes of reaching the group stages of the Champions League.

And with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford struggling in recent times, Gakpo would be a breath of fresh air at the Theatre of Dreams.
