Everton manager Frank Lampard still wants to bring midfielder Idrissa Gueye back to the club from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Lampard has overseen a busy few months of business at Goodison Park but could still add further to his team before the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest on a move for Gueye?

The 32-year-old left Everton for the Ligue 1 giants in the summer of 2019 for £30 million, making 111 first-team appearances since.

Gueye has reportedly agreed to take a pay cut in order to return to the Toffees this summer but a stumbling block has been hit in the form of a transfer fee, according to 90Min.

The publication states that the £99,000 per-week star is looking for compensation from PSG in order to leave this summer, with the French champions asking Everton to contribute towards that as part of the agreement.

Previous reports in France have stated that the Merseysiders are willing to pay £8.4 million in order to bring the 94-cap Senegal international to the club.

Amadou Onana has already arrived from Lille to bolster Lampard’s midfield but Jones believes that Gueye remains on the manager’s radar too.

What has Jones said on the move?

Jones understands that Gueye is a player Lampard remains eager to bring back this summer in order to add some much-needed experience to his side.

The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it's still possible. I think it's one that's just hanging in there. I think that Frank Lampard still wants him and needs that experience in his team. I think that he's hopeful that Idrissa Gueye still comes through.”

Do Everton need Gueye this summer?

Adding experience to his team has clearly been a motivating factor for Lampard this summer with the likes of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski already arriving.

Youth has also been added in the form of Dwight McNeil and Onana but the Chelsea legend may feel he is lacking a wiser head in midfield at present.

Gueye would certainly bring that, having racked up over 400 appearances from spells with Lille, PSG, Aston Villa and Everton.

He would also arrive with a winning mentality having won three Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups and an Africa Cup of Nations in his career.

The Toffees have zero points after two Premier League games so far this season, shining a light on the frailties that remain from last term’s relegation battle.
