Everton star Anthony Gordon heading to Chelsea and Ross Barkley returning to Goodison Park is something transfer insider Dean Jones is refusing to rule out.

Chelsea are keen on signing Gordon before the window closes, and Jones can imagine a deal that would see Barkley move in the other direction materialising.

According to the Daily Mirror and other outlets, Chelsea recently made a £45m offer for Gordon that was rejected by Everton.

The newspaper claims the Toffees' valuation is closer to £50m, while the same report also states that the 21-year-old winger is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

While Gordon could be about to start his Chelsea career, Barkley's looks to be over.

The £100,000-a-week attacking midfielder has not been handed a shirt number for the season and has less than 12 months remaining on his contract.

What has Jones said about Gordon, Barkley and Everton?

Jones has suggested that Chelsea could try to include former Everton player Barkley in a deal for Gordon.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "The Anthony Gordon situation, I wonder if Ross Barkley could potentially become involved in that deal in some way. I think that might be one to keep an eye on."

Should Everton sell Gordon?

Manager Frank Lampard will probably not want to watch Gordon depart Goodison Park this summer, and the same goes for some supporters given that he is a local lad.

Speaking about the English youngster towards the end of last season, Lampard told Sky Sports: "He's becoming more of a man, more of a leader with every game, with every day. His dedication and talent is huge. His feeling for the club, to bring that across at such a young age is something pretty special.

"I love working with him, love him as a player. There are things he wants to improve and he can improve and that's absolutely normal in terms of development. But what he's doing for us at the minute, he's an absolutely huge player."

£50m is a lot of money for an attacking player who is still developing, though. It could perhaps help Lampard to sign someone who is closer to being the finished article with change to spare.

Ultimately, given that Everton probably could sign an upgrade on Gordon, who scored just four goals last term, with £50m, it is an offer that they surely have to consider if Chelsea present it. A slightly lower fee plus Barkley does not sound like the worst deal either, so the Toffees should not be too quick to say the England U21 international is not for sale.
