Anthony Joshua's trainer has publicly revealed his brand new gameplan for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

The British superstar will fight Usyk for a second time on August 20 in Saudi Arabia.

Long-time assistant coach Angel Fernandez has been promoted to the role of head coach ahead of the encounter as Joshua bids to fell the unified heavyweight champion, to who he ceded his IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles.

Fernandez has been handed the seemingly impossible task of overseeing what would be a massive upset.

And he revealed there has been a change in strategy for Joshua to try and hand Usyk his first professional loss.

"Obviously there is a few changes, there is a few talks between the team," Fernandez explained to iFL TV.

"Nobody else knows better than him what needs to be done in the fight in order to win. He's been with this man twelve rounds. He knows what things could have been done better and also what things have to like go away.

"Obviously myself and Garcia as well we are bringing different approaches. It's not changing anything. It's just adding to his game.

"I'm bringing the old AJ back, that's what we're trying to do.

"The final prediction has been the same since AJ came into Loughborough from day one. We're going to knock this guy out. That's the way we train and that's what we're going to do."

Joshua moved on from his long-time coach Rob McCracken after his defeat to Usyk in September of 2021.

The Brit recruited Robert Garcia to be his new head trainer, with Fernandez remaining part of his set-up.

And like Fernandez, Garcia is equally confident.

He previously said: “[The September defeat] is all in the past; now it’s time to work on what Anthony can do. He’s practising little things we’ve been working on in the gym even on his days off.

“He’s training, we’re watching video together, and he’s learning, he’s taking notes. He wants to be champion again. And, like I told you, I have no doubt that he will be champion again.

“With his dedication, all the hard work he does in the gym, it motivates me also to do much more and put more into training camp to come out with the win, because I know how much he wants it.

“That motivates me to do it also. I want my first heavyweight champion of the world. I’ve had 14 world champions, he’ll be my 15th, but he’ll be my first heavyweight champion of the world. And that’s big for me, too.”
