Shawn Michaels is one of the most quick-witted WWE Superstars ever, and he proved that while dealing with homophobic chants from fans.

During his first run between 1992-1998, Shawn Michaels was undeniably one of WWE's top stars, alongside the likes of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker and Bret Hart.

During one of his promo segments during that period, Shawn Michaels was being hurled with homophobic chants from the fans in attendance.

Shawn, seeing the chants from the fans as an opportunity to get some heel heat, fired back in the most 'Heartbreak Kid' way possible.

Shawn took a second to soak in the chants from the crowd, before getting back on the mic and firing back with a savage response.

Why don't you ask your sister and your mama how gay Shawn is? Yeah!

Shawn's line was a perfect response to the homophobic chants, and it generated a monster reaction from the fans in attendance.

The clip re-surfaced online this week and has been doing the rounds on Twitter, with many hearing Shawn's savage line for the very first time.

You can see some of the reactions from fans on social media to the exchange in the embedded tweets below.

Shawn is still involved with WWE to this day, despite wrestling his last match for the company in October 2018.

HBK actually retired in 2010 after his iconic WrestleMania XXVI match with The Undertaker, and stayed true to his declaration that he'd never wrestle again for just over eight years.

However, when WWE offered Shawn big money to return for a match in Saudi Arabia, he said yes, teaming with Triple H to take on The Undertaker and Kane at Crown Jewel.

As noted, Michaels is still with WWE, working behind the scenes in his role as the Head Booker for NXT 2.0, WWE's developmental brand.

Now that Vince McMahon isn't working with WWE anymore, having retired last month, fans are expecting Shawn to have much more control over NXT, especially given his close relationship with Triple H.

With Triple H now serving as the Head of Creative, fans are also expecting to see more crossover between NXT and the main roster, as well as NXT call-ups, faring a lot better once they move up to Raw or SmackDown.
