Everton have 'unbelievable' £40m star 'on the list' at Goodison Park

Everton manager Frank Lampard reacts

Everton have had Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher on their radar since the start of the summer, claims talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The midfielder is continuing to attract interest from other Premier League clubs, with Everton seemingly one of his many admirers.

What is the latest news involving Gallagher?

According to The Sun, Newcastle United have made Gallagher their No.1 target for this last part of the transfer window, identifying him as an alternative to Leicester City playmaker James Maddison.

The newspaper has suggested that he could cost £40m if Chelsea allow him to leave the club before September’s deadline.

Gallagher spent last season out on loan at Crystal Palace, where he was hailed as “unbelievable” by Patrick Vieira, but he looks to be in Thomas Tuchel’s plans for this campaign.

The 22-year-old has made appearances in both of Chelsea’s first two fixtures of the term, albeit from off the bench.

What has Crook said about Gallagher and Everton?

Crook has told GIVEMESPORT that Gallagher is a player who Everton have been looking at for a while now.

Speaking to GMS, the talkSPORT reporter said: “They do want a 10. Conor Gallagher has been on their list since right at the start of the summer. Morgan Gibbs-White as well, but they can’t pay the type of money that Wolves want for him, so I think they’re going to have to probably dip into the loan market.

“But obviously Conor Coady is a loan deal, so I think they can only make one more domestic loan – that does hamstring them a little bit.”

Will Chelsea sell Gallagher?

Right now, it is hard to imagine Chelsea being open to the idea of Gallagher moving to Goodison Park or somewhere else.

N’Golo Kante picked up an injury in the fiery 2-2 draw with Tottenham and could now be out for a month, while Mateo Kovacic is also unavailable for selection due to a knee problem.

The above means Jorginho and Gallagher are the only real midfield options Tuchel has right now. There is, of course, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but he played at right wing-back last time out, while it remains to be seen if 18-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka will be a part of the senior squad for the whole campaign.

When you consider all of that, unless Chelsea go on to sign a new midfielder, it would be a surprise if they allowed Gallagher to depart, so Everton fans probably should not be getting their hopes up with this one.
