West Ham now 'likely' to sign £13m star at London Stadium

West Ham United manager David Moyes

West Ham United’s move for Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri is ‘looking positive’ at this moment in time, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The 28-year-old is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Marc Cucurella from Brighton and is expected to seek pastures new before September’s deadline.

What is the latest news involving Emerson?

A recent report from The Athletic revealed that West Ham have submitted a £13 million bid for Emerson, who is behind Ben Chilwell and Cucurella in Thomas Tuchel’s pecking order.

The Italy international spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, and Tuchel was unsuccessful in his attempts to cut his stay at the Groupama Stadium short after Chilwell picked up an ACL injury.

Emerson is being targeted by West Ham following Arthur Masuaku’s loan switch to Turkish giants Besiktas and will provide cover and competition for Aaron Cresswell at left-back.

If a deal goes through, the Euro 2020 champions would become West Ham’s sixth signing of the summer. David Moyes’ charges have so far brought in Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Maxwel Cornet and Alphonse Areola.

With two years remaining on his £75,000-per-week contract in west London, this summer could be one of the last chances Chelsea get to receive a significant fee for Emerson.

What has Crook said about Emerson?

Emerson has so far failed to make either of Tuchel’s 20-man matchday squads for Chelsea’s opening two Premier League games of the season.

And Crook has informed GiveMeSport that the two capital clubs are ‘still negotiating’ his potential switch to West Ham.

He said: “I think Emerson is likely; I think he’s open to the move. A £13 million bid has gone in, obviously, the clubs are still negotiating, but I think that’s looking positive.”

Would Emerson be a good signing?

Despite being 28, Emerson has only made 182 senior club appearances, registering six goals and 11 assists along the way for the likes of AS Roma, Chelsea and Lyon.

What nickname is given to West Ham United?

The 5 foot 9 ace has got his hands on several pieces of silverware, though, claiming the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League.

Nevertheless, Moyes and West Ham may have their doubts over Emerson’s lack of game time throughout his career and how that reflects upon his eagerness to impress and start week in, week out.
