Manchester United are not in advanced talks or discussions to sign Mauro Icardi this summer, says Fabrizio Romano.

According to the transfer expert, Paris Saint-Germain have been offering the striker to clubs but United are yet to bite.

What is the latest news involving Icardi?

Get French Football News recently claimed that United have made an informal enquiry about signing Icardi this transfer window.

However, the same outlet has also stated that no direct contact has taken place between the two clubs and that PSG doubt their English counterparts have made the 29-year-old a priority.

Icardi joined PSG from Inter Milan for £54m back in 2020 after an initial loan spell and has scored 38 goals for the French side.

He no longer looks to be a part of their plans, though, sitting out of the club's first two Ligue 1 fixtures against Clermont Foot and Montpellier.

What has Romano said about Icardi and United?

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that PSG are trying to find a new club for Icardi but there is nothing advanced with United at this moment in time.

Speaking to GMS, the Italian journalist said: "Mauro Icardi, PSG are desperate to find a solution. They don't trust him for the future of the club, so they're trying to offer him everywhere. But, at the moment, there is nothing advanced with United."

Could Icardi become a serious target for United?

You would not completely rule it out. Recent reports suggest that the Manchester club could let Cristiano Ronaldo leave before the transfer window closes, so they may need to bring in a new striker, if they do not already.

As per The Telegraph, manager Erik ten Hag will not stand in the Portugal international's way if someone comes knocking.

Icardi is a proven goalscorer, netting over 170 times in his senior career, so it would not be a shock if he was earmarked as a potential successor to Ronaldo.

The Argentine was excellent during his time at Inter Milan, scoring 29 goals in 34 Serie A appearances back in the 2017/18 season.

With all of that being said, Icardi has been involved in a lot of controversy away from the pitch, previously angering the ultras of Inter, so United may have some reservations.

From a pure footballing perspective, though, you can see the logic behind targeting the PSG star, who does not appear to have a future in the French capital.
