Newcastle United have shown an interest in persuading Chelsea to sanction a deal which would involve Christian Pulisic heading to St James' Park, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Magpies have spent close to £60million drafting in Nick Pope and Sven Botman, along with Matt Targett permanently, but head coach Eddie Howe could secure further reinforcements ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What's the latest news involving Pulisic?

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle have expressed an interest in signing Pulisic as well as three of his Chelsea team-mates.

The report suggests Callum Hudson-Odoi, Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja have joined the 51-cap United States international on the Magpies' shortlist, but transfer regulations mean they can only sign one player on loan from the west Londoners and they have financial restrictions on the number of permanent signings they can make.

However, it seems that Newcastle are not the only side in the hunt for Pulisic, who joined Chelsea in a £58million deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in 2019.

Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus are also keen on the 23-year-old after it has emerged that Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is willing to sanction a loan move away from Stamford Bridge.

It comes after Pulisic has entered the final two years of his £150,000-per-week contract with Chelsea.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Pulisic?

Romano understands that Newcastle have been eager to seal Pulisic's arrival on Tyneside but were initially told that a move would not be possible.

However, the transfer insider believes that Chelsea's stance may have changed and they could sanction a move after strengthening their own squad.

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: "Newcastle have been interested, including at the end of June and the beginning of July, but from Chelsea it was 'no'.

"Before selling all these players, I think Chelsea will need to make sure that they can sign some players in those positions - a new striker and maybe a new winger.

"This is why for Hudson-Odoi it's a yes, but for Pulisic it depends."

Would Pulisic be a good signing for Newcastle?

Despite being just 23, Pulisic has already enjoyed a trophy-laden career thanks to his spells with Dortmund and Chelsea.

The creative midfielder would not need any time adjusting to the pace of the Premier League as he has already made 76 appearances in the competition, chalking up 29 goal contributions along the way.

That, along with the fact that Pulisic has found the back of the net 44 times and registered a further 45 assists during his senior club career, will be a huge attraction for Newcastle boss Howe.

Jurgen Klinsmann, who handed the Chelsea man his international debut, has also described the Magpies target as a 'leader', which will be seen as another positive by the Tyneside outfit.
