Manchester United are 'considering' a move for Cody Gakpo and they have been boosted in their pursuit as the PSV Eindhoven star would be 'attracted' to a Premier League switch amid links to Old Trafford, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Back-to-back defeats at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford has resulted in the Red Devils making a woeful start to Erik ten Hag's reign, but the Dutchman could strengthen his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What's the latest news involving Gakpo?

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United have added Gakpo to their list of targets with ten Hag keen to bolster his attacking options.

The report suggests the 23-year-old has emerged as a target after the Red Devils ended their pursuit of Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic, but a bid of £35million could be needed to persuade PSV into selling one of their key men.

It is understood that ten Hag, who shares the same agency as Gakpo, sees his fellow countryman as a long-term solution to the lack of quality options he has in the forward department.

Ex-Manchester United frontman Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is Gakpo's current boss at PSV, has brushed off suggestions that his former club are circling.

The Red Devils are in a race against time to get a deal over the line as the Eredivisie transfer window closes on August 31, meaning PSV would be unlikely to sanction a late switch.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Gakpo?

Romano understands that Gakpo is open to sealing a move to the Premier League and Manchester United are among his suitors.

The transfer insider has hinted the Red Devils have a greater chance of signing the Dutchman than Ajax winger Antony, who is ten Hag's primary attacking target but boasts a £68million asking price.

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: "For Cody Gakpo, it is different. The price tag is completely different and the player would be attracted by Premier League movement.

"This is why, for Manchester United, he is one of the options they are considering internally."

Would Gakpo improve Manchester United?

While Manchester United have made a lacklustre start to the new season and currently sit bottom of the Premier League, Gakpo has got the 2022/23 campaign off to a flyer.

The winger has already found the back of the net three times and registered a further four assists in just six outings, while journalist Josh Bunting described him as 'electric' during PSV's Champions League play-off first leg against Rangers earlier this week.

That has taken Gakpo's tally of senior goal contributions up to 82 despite still being in the early stages of his career.

With that being the case, it is clear that the seven-cap Netherlands international would be a positive signing by Manchester United.
