Manchester United are likely to make a bid to sign Real Madrid star Casemiro, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Red Devils have turned their attentions to the Brazil international after their move for PSG's Adrien Rabiot collapsed following his wage demands.

What's the latest news involving Casemiro?

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have approached the reigning Champions League holders about the midfielder's services.

This comes after the Old Trafford club all-but ended their interest in Rabiot due to being unable to agree on his wages.

The report claims that it's unclear whether the 30-year-old, who won his fifth European Cup against Liverpool back in May, would be interested in making the switch to the Premier League.

But he is seen as 'more attainable' than Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong, who the Red Devils have been trying to sign throughout the summer window.

Casemiro still has just under three years left of his £202,000 per-week contract in Madrid, and while Crook is unsure whether the Brazilian would consider signing for United, he expects Erik ten Hag's side to launch an opening offer for the midfielder.

What did Crook say about Casemiro?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Casemiro, I would be surprised if he was willing to make the move, but I think they will probably make a bid for him, it's scattergun time to be honest with you."

How did Casemiro perform last season?

2021-2022 proved the latest in a long line of memorable seasons for Casemiro in the Spanish capital.

Casemiro made 48 appearances in all competitions, helping Madrid secure their second La Liga title in three years and also claim their 14th European Cup, while he also lifted the Supercopa de Espana for the third time in his career.

According to WhoScored, he was Madrid's fifth-best player, although he was the club's top performing midfielder, with his numbers suggesting that he remains one of the world's leading engine room operators.

He made more tackles per 90 minutes than anyone in the squad (2.5), while he was also in the top four players for most clearances (1.8), interceptions (1.2) and dribbles (1.2).

To put that into context, none of United's midfield department made more tackles with Fred and Scott McTominay making 2.3 and 2.2 respectively.

A slight concern might be Casemiro's lack to discipline, with the ex-Porto loanee picking up 16 bookings last season, taking his career tally to 129 yellow cards, although he's only ever been sent off on two occasions.
