Manchester United now want to sign a further six players before the summer transfer window closes on September 1, with conversations already taking place regarding their plans, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Erik ten Hag has endured a torrid start to the Premier League season, suffering back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Brentford, and will be desperate to bolster his side at Old Trafford.

What is the latest Manchester United transfer news?

Earlier this week, it appeared the Red Devils were closing in on the signing of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot after a £15 million fee was agreed with the Italian giants.

However, a report from The Athletic on Tuesday revealed that the deal was on the verge of collapsing with United unwilling to match the 27-year-old’s wage demands.

The publication said that alternatives were now being looked at with Real Madrid’s Casemiro and Brighton youngster Moises Caicedo under consideration.

Elsewhere, The Telegraph report that PSV Eindhoven wide man Cody Gakpo has been targeted with a potential £35 million deal on the cards.

What has Jones said on United’s plans?

Jones understands that the task ahead of Ten Hag and director of football John Murtough is even bigger than anticipated with six new players still being targeted before the summer deadline.

The transfer insider says that they are looking to strengthen in all areas before the window slams shut.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “By the end of this window, United want a new backup keeper, full back, two midfielders and two forwards. It's really a lot to get done in a couple of weeks but they have no choice but to try. I was told too that conversations have even happened between some high-ranking staff and key members of the squad that left everyone in agreement that changes are essential.”

Who have United signed so far this summer?

It has been a frustrating first transfer window for Ten Hag, with just three new faces through the door with less than two weeks remaining to get deals done.

Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia joined in order to provide competition for Luke Shaw while Christian Eriksen arrived on a free transfer to add some creativity.

Ten Hag has also reunited with former Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martinez but the Argentinian has had a tough start to life in the North West, with pundits claiming he is simply too short to hack it in that role in the Premier League.
