Wolverhampton Wanderers were definitely interested in signing Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on loan this summer, although a move now seems to have gone quiet, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Bruno Lage has overseen a steady few months of business at Molineux but will be looking to strengthen further ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest transfer news from Wolves?

Three transfers have so far been made by the West Midlands side in the form of Nathan Collins, Goncalo Guedes and a permanent deal for Hee-Chan Hwang.

Wolves are also closing in on a £42 million deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes, according to Sky Sports.

The outlet says that the 23-year-old has flown to the UK to undergo his medical before finalising personal terms with the club. If the deal goes through, it would be a record transfer, beating the £35 million spent on Fabio Silva last year.

A striker also appears to be on the agenda, with the club reportedly chasing Southampton’s Che Adams and highly-rated Benfica ace Goncalo Ramos.

What has Crook said on Wolves’ hunt for a striker?

Crook understands that they were definitely interested in signing Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on loan from Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, the talkSPORT reporter says any pursuit of the £69,000 per-week Belgian appears to have gone cold.

Crook told GIVEMESPORT: "They were definitely in for Michy Batshuayi on loan although that one seems to have gone quiet.”

Would Batshuayi be a good signing for Wolves?

With Raul Jimenez once again side-lined through injury, Lage is in need of added reinforcements in the final third of the pitch.

The Mexican picked up a knee and groin injury during pre-season in a 3-0 win against Besiktas, and is expected to miss ‘a number of weeks.'

Batshuayi could prove a shrewd acquisition. The 28-year-old has made 77 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 15 goals, so would need little time to adapt to the rigours of the top flight.

He has also never had any trouble finding the back of the net. Across spells with Marseille, Standard Liege, Chelsea, Besiktas, Crystal Palace, Valencia and Borussia Dortmund, he has bagged 164 career goals.

Batshuayi’s winning mentality would not go amiss at Molineux either, having won Premier League and FA Cup titles in England as well as the Spanish Cup.

Even if the move is just a stopgap for Wolves, it may be a smart move for the current season.
