WWE 2K23 has been officially confirmed so we’ve been thinking about the wrestlers that could lead the game’s showcase mode, after the success of Rey Mysterio’s career retrospective in WWE 2K22.

We have previously seen John Cena honoured in WWE 2K15, followed by Stone Cold Steve Austin, Daniel Bryan, the women’s revolution and, most recently, Mysterio.

WWE 2K23 is set to release next year and, as a result, we’re taking a close look at the wrestlers who could make it into the showcase mode.

Of course, to do so, the wrestlers really need to have had a storied career, with a number of huge matches at high-profile shows.

We’ve taken a look at five superstars who would be perfect for the mode when 2K23 eventually comes out.

The Rock

We’ve heard several reports claiming that WWE are planning to pit The Rock against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania, so what better time to do a deep dive on The Rock’s career?

He’s won all of the top belts in the company, had iconic feuds with Stone Cold, Triple H and John Cena, and is now one of the biggest movie stars in the world.

The Rock leading a Showcase mode makes all the sense in the world, particularly if 2K are aiming to have some real cut-through in the gaming market.

Randy Orton

An absolute veteran, Orton has now been in WWE for 20 years.

What better time to commemorate his world-class career and his rise from Legend Killer to perhaps the smoothest in-ring competitor WWE has ever seen?

He’s had iconic feuds all over the place, notably with Cena, Triple H and Bray Wyatt; this would be an exceptional time to showcase his career. See what we did there?

Roman Reigns

He’s always going to be in the conversation.

Roman is the Head of the Table, the top guy, the Tribal Chief.

2K could choose to acknowledge him in WWE 2K23, although the one black mark against it is the fact that he surely has plenty of years in the tank, so this might be a little early!

Edge

Edge made his thunderous return to WWE at the Royal Rumble in 2020, and then went on to win the same match the following year from No.1.

A showcase mode with Edge would be really interesting, charting his rise from tag-team competitor to world champion, and then factoring in his return.

We’d love to dish out spears all over the place!

NXT

This one is a bit of a cheat, but 2K has previously documented events like the Women’s Revolution so there could be a chance to chart the rise of NXT under Triple H’s tutelage.

It went from a wacky game show to being arguably the best independent wrestling promotion in the world, featuring a number of stars that have gone on to greater things.

There is a huge library of matches that 2K could call on, and show off just how brilliant NXT used to be. With Triple H in charge, we wouldn’t bet against it!
