Women's World Cup winner and three-time Olympic gold medallist Heather O'Reilly has trolled Cristiano Ronaldo with her latest Twitter post.

The 37-year-old, who recently came out of retirement, couldn't help but poke fun at the Portuguese forward about the fact she will be playing in the Champions League this season, while he will not.

Ronaldo rejoined former team Manchester United last year with high hopes to make the Reds a title-challenging team once again, but this plan is yet to come to fruition.

Despite the Red Devils strengthening by signing the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, they were unable to secure Champions League football last season.

United are currently two weeks into the new Premier League campaign and they are rock bottom of the table on zero points.

O'Reilly on the other hand, made the decision to postpone her retirement in order to fulfil her dream of playing in the Women's Champions League, and she has done just that.

The former US international signed for Irish champions Shelbourne in July, who will compete in Europe this season.

Both players are icons of the game in their own right and are both the same age, but O'Reilly seems to be enjoying the fact she has secured Champions League football before Ronaldo, who has won it five times in his career.

O'Reilly spent almost her entire career in the US apart from a one-year stint at Arsenal in 2017. Frustratingly, the Gunners went on to win the Women's Super League the following season, and as a result, qualified for the Champions League.

However, the American international had already returned to the motherland after joining the North Carolina Courage.

She retired after helping the Courage win the NWSL title in 2019 but the Champions League itch got the better of her.

After appearing at Soccer Aid 2022, Arsène Wenger suggested she still had what it takes to continue her playing career, which sparked the decision to sign for Shelbourne.

As an Irish American, the move was ideal, and now she will live out her dream of competing on the European stage.

In the Man United camp, tensions are high following their back-to-back Premier League losses.

Ronaldo is reportedly looking for a move away from Old Trafford in order to play in the Champions League once again.
