Jesse Marsch has overseen a busy transfer window at Elland Road but can still strengthen his side ahead of the September 1 deadline.
What is the latest news on Gnonto?
Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Leeds were working on a deal to sign the 18-year-old and were hoping to land him for just £4.2 million.
Gnonto has entered the final year of his contract with the Swiss side so director Victor Orta will no doubt be hoping to land a cut-price deal for the exciting talent.
Leeds are in the market for a new striker this summer, with Patrick Bamford picking up another injury on Saturday potentially accelerating the chase, but Marsch says they will only move for the right target.
Attempts to sign other striking targets this summer have not gone to plan either with the likes of Arnaud Kalimuendo heading elsewhere.
Nevertheless, Leeds have still splashed £95 million on new recruits this summer, including on Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams. However, with Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha both departing, that was always likely.
What has Romano said on a potential deal for the striker?
The transfer guru understands that Gnonto is a player that Leeds admire and hinted that they are pushing ahead with a deal.
However, he warned that Zurich would be no pushovers in the market.
Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “The most interesting one is Wilfried Gnonto, the Italian talent who is doing great with the national team under Roberto Mancini. They like him. But it is not easy to negotiate with Zurich.”
Would Gnonto be a good signing for Leeds?
If Leeds can get this deal over the line, it could be looked back on as an absolute bargain in years to come.
Gnonto may only be 18 but he has already made 70 appearances for Zurich, scoring 12 goals. He has also been called into Roberto Mancini’s Italian national squad, bagging a goal and an assist within his first four games.
“For his age he knows how to play football like few others and he is very quick,” Mancini said of Gnonto after their Nations League clash with Hungary. “If he develops without too much pressure, he can show us what quality he has.”
