Everton manager Frank Lampard will be annoyed if Anthony Gordon is sold to Chelsea, claims journalist Simon Phillips.

The Toffees winger has reportedly been the subject of a failed bid from the Blues, who could come back in for him before the transfer window closes.

What is the latest news involving Gordon?

According to The Athletic, Chelsea recently made a formal offer for Gordon, which has since been rejected by Everton.

The same outlet states that it would take a £50m proposal for the Merseyside club to reconsider their stance.

While Everton are fighting hard to keep hold of their academy graduate, it is believed that he is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

As per The Telegraph, the 21-year-old wants to join Chelsea this summer and is hoping that the west London outfit will make another bid for him.

What has Phillips said about Gordon potentially leaving Goodison Park?

Phillips does not think Lampard will be too happy if Everton sanction a sale for Gordon.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "If they're going to let a player like Gordon go, even if it is for 50 million, which is ridiculous money for Gordon, then they [the fans] are going to be annoyed and you can see that. And I'm pretty sure Lampard is going to be annoyed about that as well."

Should Lampard be annoyed if Everton sell Gordon?

You certainly can see Lampard getting frustrated if Everton do decide to sell Gordon this summer. He is a player the Toffees boss rates extremely highly and enjoys working with.

"His dedication and talent is huge," Lampard told Sky Sports back in May when discussing the England U21 international.

"His feeling for the club, to bring that across at such a young age is something pretty special. I love working with him."

£50m, however, is a lot of money. You could not blame the decision makers at Everton for accepting an offer of that amount for a player who they have not spent a penny on.

From Lampard's side of things, he should also be able to find a winger superior to Gordon if he is handed that £50m or most of it. While Gordon obviously has a lot of potential, he scored just four goals last term. Based on that, selling up now and bringing in a more ready-made attacker does not sound like the worst idea.

Therefore, Lampard should not be too annoyed if Gordon is sold, as long as he is afforded the opportunity to reinvest the money made from that potential sale.
