UFC middleweight Paulo Costa has suggested that Paddy Pimblett helped him out with his weight cut for UFC 278.

Over the course of the last few years we’ve seen Paulo Costa quickly become one of the most unique personalities in mixed martial arts. In addition to what he can do inside the cage, the Brazilian sensation has either won fans over or completely turned them off as a result of his antics outside of it.

He suggested that he drank a bottle of wine before fighting Israel Adesanya, he’s one of the most prominent UFC fighters on Twitter, and he made Marvin Vettori jump from middleweight to light heavyweight on one week’s notice because he couldn’t get down to 185 pounds.

The latter of those points, of course, is why there are going to be a lot of eyes on Paulo when he weighs in tomorrow for his return to the Octagon this weekend.

During his media day commitments, Costa spoke confidently about his ability to hit the scale at 186 or less.

“Yes, I guarantee [he’ll make weight]. If you want to bet, I’ll bet. I can make the weight tonight.”

Costa was then asked directly about whether or not Paddy Pimblett, who he’s had a few interactions with in the past, has helped him with the cut.

“Yeah, he gave me a few instructions. Man, if you look for me and Paddy, it’s not a joke anymore. We have to cut a lot of weight in a short time. When I saw Paddy fight two weeks ago, I tweeted this I said man, this is a short time to cut that much weight, but he did it. He did great, and me as well! We know how to cut weight.”

Rockhold awaits

Despite losing his last two bouts to Adesanya and Vettori, Paulo Costa is still viewed as a genuine contender at middleweight.

In order to try and get back to a title shot he’ll need to make an emphatic statement in Salt Lake City when he goes head to head with former champion Luke Rockhold.

The chin of Rockhold has been called into question on many occasions but if the veteran can slip past some of Costa’s power shots, this could turn into an intriguing contest.
