Broadcaster Christopher ‘Mad Dog’ Russo has slammed Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers over his recent comments about his wide receivers.

This year is set to look a lot different for both the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers, as it will be the first time since the 2013 season that the team will be without wide receiver Davante Adams following his trade to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Having started out slowly in the NFL, catching just 929 yards and scoring 4 touchdowns in his first two seasons in the NFL, before really exploding into life in the 2016 season, where he fell just short of a 1,000-yard season when he pulled in 997, but he did manage to up his touchdown production to 12, really putting the league on notice.

Since then he’s continued to grow and grow, with 2,927 receiving yards in the past two seasons and 29 touchdowns, including a league-best 18 in 2020. It’s no wonder then that the Raiders were willing to fork out a 1st and 2nd round pick for his services this offseason to take him to Sin City.

But despite his absence, the Packers are still looking pretty when it comes to wide receivers.

Plenty to go around

The Packers do still have a lot of experienced wide receivers to work with, including Randall Cobb, Travis Fulgham and Sammy Watkins, as well as a number of younger players, but it’s those younger players that Rodgers seems to be concerned about.

Speaking to the media recently (via NFL.com), he slammed the youngsters for their performances so far in training camp, stating "We've got to be way more consistent. A lot of drops, a lot of bad route decisions, running the wrong route. We've got to get better in that area.”

However Christopher Russo wasn’t having any of it in an incredible rant that he unleashed on Rodgers on TV.

What’s he said?

Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, Russo claimed that it was up to Rodgers to make the young receivers better and put them in a position to succeed rather than relying on them to make the jump to play at his standards so early in their careers:

Now Rodgers has since had a meeting with the youngsters, where hopefully he’ll have been able to smooth a few things out, but it still isn’t a great look for him to have with the youngsters, especially if he needs to rely on them later in the year, where hopefully his words aren’t putting too much pressure on them and forces them into making mistakes.
