It's no secret that Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't been happy with life at Manchester United for quite some time. Last December, though, his frustration boiled over at Newcastle - playing his part in one of the funniest passages of play of the 2021/22 season.

United's campaign was already on dodgy ground when the Red Devils travelled to St. James' Park two days after Christmas.

The visitors looked sluggish throughout the first period, falling behind to a strike from Allan Saint-Maximin.

Newcastle were clearly the dominant force in the match as Ronaldo was forced to watch his colleagues surrender the ball time and time again.

Early in the second half, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had seen enough.

For reasons that only he will know, United's Alex Telles decided to channel his inner Zinedine Zidane by attempting to spin past Sean Longstaff while in his own half.

He failed in comical fashion, but Longstaff didn't fare much better, leaving the ball behind after Telles had surrendered possession.

In farcical scenes, Ryan Fraser also misses the fact that the ball is loose. Both Newcastle men charge forward, assuming that the other has the ball safely under control.

Eventually, Fraser retrieves possession, but is soon emphatically wiped out by Ronaldo, who raced across the Tyneside Turf to punt his opponent.

It's six of the most absurd seconds of football you'll ever see - and has recently gone viral again, receiving over 146,000 likes at time of writing.

Somehow, Ronaldo escaped with only a yellow card for his reckless 'challenge' - and United eventually headed back to Manchester with a point thanks to an equaliser from Edinson Cavani.

Fans on Twitter have had plenty to say about the madness that took place in the clip and we've included the best of their reaction below.

Ronaldo began his second spell at Old Trafford with a glorious brace against Newcastle in front of an adoring Old Trafford crowd in September last year.

Within barely three months, he found himself involved in this calamity after the wheels had well and truly fallen off of United's season.

The 37-year-old has been involved in some of the most spectacular moments in football history.

This passage of play, however, won't win any awards for technical brilliance.

In the 30 seasons of the Premier League, we've rarely seen such unintentional comedy.
