Lewis Hamilton is known for his exploits on the Formula One track, seeing him break record after record to establish GOAT status in the sport.

However, he doesn’t just excel whilst competing, the seven-time world champion is also a top class act away from the sport, doing so much for minorities and standing up for social injustices.

He uses his platform to highlight major issues in the world from a human rights point of view, especially in countries where the sport visits such as Hungary, Qatar and Saudi Arabia to name a few.

The philanthropist nature of his doesn’t stop there, with him setting up his own charity, donating millions to get it off the ground where he is trying to help underrepresented groups get into the sport as well as conducting the Hamilton Commission to explore the injustices in the hiring process for minority groups.

Russia going to war with Ukraine is a story none of us have been able to ignore, with the heartbreaking scenes on the news striking a chord with most, with plenty of people trying to help out in whatever way they can.

Sir Lewis Hamilton is no different, he was personally touched by a story of a Ukrainian eight-year-old who dreams of being a F1 driver in the future.

After braving missile attacks, he finally escaped to nearby Poland. He was then greeted by a gift bundle from his hero, Lewis Hamilton.

The Mirror went to Poland to meet Roman, who showed off his collection of gifts from Hamilton which included, a signed cap, Mercedes Monopoly, a replica model Hamilton helmet and a note of support from Hamilton.

Roman and his mother have been separated from their father/husband as he fights on the front line back home in Ukraine.

They’ve only managed to meet once since escaping to Poland for shelter, with Ivanna, Roman’s mum saying: “It was amazing to see him. He did not talk about what he has seen – he says I don’t need to know. He had extreme fatigue and said they have been using stimulant injections to keep awake.

“Roman was very happy to see his dad. He didn’t want to go back – it was hard.”

Although no gift will be able to make up for the heartache suffered by the family, Roman’s care package from his hero will make the journey much more bearable for him and give him a much needed boost.
