Celtic have ‘been tracking’ Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder Edouard Michut ‘all summer’, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The highly-rated 19-year-old had been expected to depart his boyhood club in search of regular game time, but with deadline day fast approaching, it remains to be seen where he will be plying his trade in 2022/23.

What is the latest news involving Michut?

Last month, Sky Sports reported that Celtic are ‘targeting a deal’ for Michut and that the Glasgow giants are ‘preparing an offer’ in the region of £2 million (€2.5m) for him.

Yet PSG are believed to have informed interested parties they want around £5m for the France Under-19 international, with Sevilla, Nice and Toulouse also monitoring his situation.

However, Postecoglou has previously rebuked claims that Celtic are in the race for Michut when asked about the speculation in an interview

“Yeah, good player, but no,” said the 56-year-old tactician. “I have an interest in every good footballer in the world, but there is a limited market I can tap into.”

Nevertheless, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph has told GiveMeSport that Celtic are in fact ‘interested’ in Michut, stating that the way Postecoglou answered the question showed he’s ‘definitely aware of him’.

What has O’Rourke said about Michut?

O’Rourke believes that Celtic will be ‘keeping tabs’ on PSG’s stance over Michut, with Postecoglou still ‘looking to strengthen’ his options in the middle of the pitch.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “If PSG are willing to let him go, midfield is an area that Postecoglou is looking to strengthen as well.

“It is somebody they've been tracking all summer, so I'm sure they will be keeping tabs with PSG to see if there is any possibility that Michut might be allowed out on loan.”

Would Michut be a good signing?

Michut has only made eight senior appearances for the reigning Ligue 1 champions and is yet to feature for them in the current campaign.

Yet former Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye described him as an “important player” for PSG during an interview with RMC in December.

“Edouard Michut is an important player for the club and this is not just talk,” explained Cabaye, who is now the sporting coordinator of the club’s academy.

The youngster could be viewed as someone to pick up where Tom Rogic left off following his departure from Celtic earlier in the summer, and it remains to be seen whether Postecoglou does make a move for him or not.
