Allan Saint-Maximin was an absolute joy to watch as Newcastle drew 3-3 to Manchester City on Sunday.

City had taken a very early lead through Ilkay Gundogan as they threatened to ease to victory at St James' Park.

But Saint-Maximin was never going to let that happen.

Conceding a fifth-minute goal appeared to be the catalyst for the French winger to pull out his repertoire of tricks to cause the City defence all sorts of problems.

In fact, the response was so good that the only surprise was that it took more than 20 minutes for the equaliser to arrive.

When it did, Saint-Maximin was at the heart of it as he clipped a delightful ball for Miguel Almiron to bundle home.

Ten minutes later, Saint-Maximin registered another this assist. This time, he played in Callum Wilson who took a touch before firing past Ederson.

He later won a free-kick after yet another electric run that Kieran Trippier brilliantly scored from to give Newcastle a 3-1 lead after half time.

Goals from Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva denied the Toon Army the win.

But it was an incredible match with Saint-Maximin the best player on the pitch.

If you missed his performance - firstly we feel sorry for you. But we've also got a treat for you in the form of his individual highlights.

Saint-Maximin gave Kyle Walker a torrid afternoon and proved why he's probably the most exciting player to watch in the league right now.

When Saint-Maximin first arrived at Newcastle from Nice for £16.5 million in 2019, the winger frustrated many Geordies. He had plenty of promise but very little end product.

Now, it seems he's found that end product and has developed into a seriously good player.

Praise for Saint-Maximin after the match

After the match, Saint-Maximin was the talk of the town.

“Allan Saint-Maximin is really dangerous,” Pep Guardiola admitted to BBC Sport.

Sky Sports pundit, Micah Richards, said it was the best he’s ever seen him play.

“It was the best I’ve ever seen him play,” Richards said on Sky Sports. “Trippier was telling him how good he is, and he has to believe it. Newcastle have a right player on their hands.”

His manager, Eddie Howe, agreed.

“I thought today was a very, very good performance from Maxi,” said Howe. “It was his best performance since I’ve been managing him.

“He got every aspect of his game in a very good place. His pace was there, you could see he was electric.”

Even Saint-Maximin himself admitted it was one of the best he's played.

"It was one of [my best performances],” he replied. "You know I'm capable of playing like that, I just try to listen to my teammates as they help me a lot.

"A very good goal was made for Callum Wilson and a good one for Miggy. I will just keep doing what I love to do.

"I say thank you to my teammates for helping me play like that. I just want to keep going."
