Crystal Palace ‘might be yet another club’ interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent days following the arrival of Casemiro, with south London touted as a potential destination.

What is the latest news involving McTominay?

90min have reported that the Red Devils have been ‘inundated with interest’ in McTominay since it became clear they were set to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid in a £70 million deal.

It’s claimed that the Scotland international is most likely to leave on loan should he depart the red half of Manchester, although manager Erik ten Hag is yet to make him available for transfer.

With Ten Hag targeting further midfield reinforcements before September’s deadline and Fred already enjoyed a productive partnership with compatriot Casemiro, it’s McTominay who is most likely to suffer at United.

Premier League outfits Newcastle United, West Ham, Everton, Southampton and Leicester City are also understood to be keen on McTominay’s service, along with clubs in both Italy and Germany.

What has Jones said about McTominay?

Palace are believed to be in the market for another engine room operator following the departure of Conor Gallagher and have been credited with an interest in Leicester’s Boubakary Soumare.

However, Jones has informed GiveMeSport that the capital club could join the race for McTominay if they ‘can’t get someone like Soumare’.

He said: “Soumare has a lot of interest from French clubs too, most looking at a loan. Palace might yet be another club that look at McTominay If they can’t get someone like Soumare.”

Would McTominay be a good signing?

McTominay, who still has three years left to run on his £60,000-per-week contract, has been a solid servant to United, registering 16 goals and four assists in 172 appearances across all competitions.

As per FBref, the 6 foot 4 beast has ranked in the 92nd percentile for clearances and the 91st for aerial duels won compared to his positional peers over the last year, highlighting his impressive defensive contributions.

And McTominay was also dubbed a “physical monster” by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his impressive running power and ability to drive his side up the pitch.

Therefore, Patrick Vieira may view McTominay as the ideal candidate to replace Gallagher’s presence in the middle of the pitch if he is unable to land Soumare.
