Leeds United have looked at the possibility of signing Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz in the transfer window but are unlikely to push ahead with a deal, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

Jesse Marsch has overseen a busy few months at Elland Road this summer but can still strengthen further ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest on Brereton Diaz?

The 23-year-old has attracted plenty of attention this summer after bagging 22 Championship goals last season, taking his career tally to 42.

Blackburn recently rejected a £10 million offer from Ligue 1 side Nice for the 14-cap Chile international, while the likes of Sevilla and West Ham are also interested.

It is understood that the La Liga side have seen a bid turned down as well, with the Lancashire side demanding £25 million for the striker, despite only having a year remaining on his contract.

According to Sky Sports News, Blackburn are set to fail in their attempts to tie Brereton Diaz to a new deal at Ewood Park, with the striker eager to explore opportunities elsewhere.

The report also details that the player would be interested in talking to Nice if a fee can be agreed before the deadline.

What has Jacobs said on a potential deal?

Jacobs understands that Leeds have looked into signing Brereton Diaz this summer.

However, the reporter also details that the move does not look likely to progress further at this stage with a number of worries emerging from West Yorkshire.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “I don't think there's too much in that at the moment. Obviously, he’s got good numbers in the Championship for Blackburn and a relatively high price tag. But there are one or two concerns about whether he's going to translate those numbers to the Premier League. For me, that's not heading anywhere at the moment, despite the fact that he's a name that Leeds have looked at.”

Why are Leeds looking for a striker?

Last season saw Patrick Bamford miss 30 games in all competitions through injury as Leeds narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League.

That is a situation that Marsch will be desperate to avoid again and adding strength in depth to his side appears to be a big part of that mission, with seven new players signing already this summer.

Rodrigo has been filling in for Bamford once again after the former Middlesbrough man was withdrawn against Southampton with another knock.
