Roy Keane was the man everyone wanted to meet at Old Trafford on Monday night before and after Manchester United’s shock 2-1 victory over rivals Liverpool.Erik ten Hag’s men surprised everyone with a superb team performance against last season’s Champions League finalists.Goals either side of half-time from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford earned the Red Devils their first three points of the 2022-23 season following back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford.Keane, arguably the greatest captain of the Premier League era and one of the best players in Man Utd’s history, was part of Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (MNF) panel alongside Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. And it was patently clear all evening that Keane is true football royalty.Roy Keane was football royalty at Old Trafford

Everyone wanted a Roy Keane handshake - even Stormzy

Shortly before MNF came off air, Sky Sports showed a brilliant clip of Keane being embraced by various stars of the football world - and even rapper Stormzy!

“It’s been a really good night for Manchester United,” host Dave Jones said, “it’s been like a special homecoming for you, Roy!

“Let’s remind everyone: starting with [Cristiano] Ronaldo, who gave Jamie the cold shoulder, Casemiro the new signing has been in and had a hug, he met Manchester United’s Lionesses, and we signed off with Stormzy!”

The clip amused Neville and Carragher, who quipped: “He’s like the mayor of Manchester, shaking everyone’s hand!”

Jones added: “Roy Keane… this is your life!”

The Irishman then shook hands with Carragher and Neville. What a guy.

Roy Keane even made Jurgen Klopp laugh

Keane also met Jurgen Klopp prior to kick-off and couldn’t resist asking the Liverpool boss if his side had been a bit sloppy - a reference to their prickly exchange from September 2020.

The Irishman was in top form all night and would have left Old Trafford delighted after watching his former side produce such a spirited performance against Liverpool, who currently sit 16th in the Premier League table.

United, meanwhile, climb to 14th and now prepare to face Southampton on Saturday lunchtime.
