Wolverhampton Wanderers will be ‘having conversations’ with Benfica over striker Goncalo Ramos, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The Midlands outfit are in the market for attacking reinforcements after Fabio Silva joined Anderlecht on loan, and the talented 21-year-old has emerged as a potential target.

What is the latest news involving Ramos?

Earlier in the summer, Portuguese reporter Bruno Andrade previously claimed that Wolves were in talks with Benfica for Ramos following Silva’s temporary switch away from Molineux.

But Bruno Lage’s charges could now face stiff competition for the youngster’s signature, with both Newcastle United and Southampton also listed as potential suitors.

The Telegraph claim that the Saints are the latest side to join the race for Ramos’ services, stating that his current employers will demand around £25 million in order to sanction his sale.

Ramos still has four years remaining on his existing contract at the Estádio da Luz, though, leaving Benfica in a very strong position around the negotiating table.

And the Portugal Under-21 international has started 2022/23 in outstanding form, registering five goals and three assists in his first five games of the new season.

What has Talbot said about Ramos?

When asked if Wolves could have the upper hand in the race for Ramos due to Jorge Mendes and their Portuguese connection, Talbot claimed ‘it’s very possible’.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think what Mendes does, is he takes over the mandate of these agents, he'll offer them some money, then he brings them over to the Premier League, and that's how he makes his money.

“I think that’s the idea, it’s through his connections, so it's very possible. They’re definitely going to be having conversations, Wolves and Benfica.”

Who else could Wolves sign?

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that Wolves are ‘in talks’ over a move for Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic, although no formal offer has been tabled just yet.

Stuttgart are said to want €25m (£21.2m) for the 25-year-old, who is thought to be discussing personal terms with Wolves after entering the final 12 months of his contract.

The 6 foot 7 giant has registered 24 goals and 12 assists in 60 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit across all competitions in recent years.

It remains to be seen if Wolves can get this deal over the line or whether they will have to revert their attention back to Ramos in the closing stages of the window.
