UFC champion Leon Edwards received an amazing message from Usain Bolt prior to his win at UFC 278.

Even though it’s been a few days since his iconic victory in Salt Lake City, Leon Edwards’ triumph still feels pretty fresh.

The man known as ‘Rocky’ was able to pull off an incredible comeback win as he delivered a devastating head kick to knock Kamaru Usman out and become the new king of the UFC’s welterweight division.

Edwards was down 3-1 on the scorecards with the masses counting him out in a big way as we got closer and closer to the end of the fight. Then, in the blink of an eye, he landed the KO shot with less than one minute remaining in the main event.

Leon became just the second British fighter to win a UFC title after Michael Bisping, but the first to do so by solely training out of the United Kingdom.

One thing the 30-year-old has also been pretty vocal about is his roots, with his win also making him the first Jamaican-born UFC champion.

As it turns out, he received an extra slice of motivation on fight night in the form of this incredible message from one of the nation’s greatest sporting icons - Usain Bolt.

“I heard you have a championship fight tonight, boss. I know you’re gonna get it done, alright? We’re supporting you, we’re ready, alright? Get it done. Let’s go!”

As you can imagine, Leon was pretty pumped up to have the backing of someone who knows what it feels like to win the big one.

The next step

Leon Edwards always knew that if he beat Kamaru Usman and pulled off the upset, he was probably going to have to run it back with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

That’s exactly the scenario that appears to be playing out with UFC president Dana White recently confirming that he wants to put on a trilogy fight between the two, and he wants it to go down in England.

Given the depth of talent from this part of the world you’d have to think this has the potential to be a stadium show, with early talk from Usman himself indicating that it’ll probably take place next year.
