Man City: Erling Haaland's reaction to Kevin De Bruyne's pass vs Newcastle

Is Kevin De Bruyne the best midfielder in the Premier League? Yes, yes he is.

To be honest, the Belgian maestro is probably the finest operator in his position on the planet right now and he just seems to be getting better with each passing week.

De Bruyne has started the 2022/23 season on fire. In Manchester City‘s Premier League opener against West Ham United, he produced a magical assist for Erling Haaland.

Against Bournemouth the following weekend, the former Chelsea man got himself on the scoresheet courtesy of a quite sensational strike with the outside of his trusty right peg.

Then in the 3-3 thriller away at Newcastle United last Sunday, De Bruyne went into superhuman-mode to tee up Bernardo Silva for City’s equaliser.

The 31-year-old played a pass that absolutely no one else saw, the ball going through Joe Willock’s legs before arriving at Silva’s feet.

We may not see a better assist in the rest of the 2022/23 season, that’s how good it was from De Bruyne.

The reaction to it from Haaland, who had the perfect view, sums up what a snippet of genius it was from one of the all-time greats.

We feel you, Erling.

Spotting Silva’s run was impressive in itself, but being able to play the pass so perfectly and with such precision through a crowd is just beyond ridiculous.

It’s part of the reason why many believe De Bruyne is the best midfielder in world football right now, a claim that was backed up by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes earlier in the year.

After De Bruyne scored twice and contributed an assist in a 4-1 home win for City against the Red Devils, Scholes said: “He’s [De Bruyne] the best midfielder in the Premier League, probably the best in the world.

“I can’t think of anybody else who touches him. He does everything. It’s alright when these footballers are great passers and keep possession well, but this lad scores goals, he makes goals, he defends, his passes are brilliant.

“He’s got absolutely everything you want in a top-class midfielder.”
