Manchester United have launched ‘tentative enquiries’ into the availability of Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, although a deal remains unlikely, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Erik ten Hag has overseen a busy few months at Old Trafford but still has time to strengthen his side ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest news on Hakimi?

The United manager is understood to be eager to add a new right-back to his ranks before the end of the transfer window in order to provide Diogo Dalot with more intense competition.

According to Football Insider, the Red Devils have turned their focus to PSG ace Hakimi after the signing of midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid was completed.

The report states that United are eager to beat Barcelona to the signature of the Morocco international with Hakimi’s ability to create and score goals valued highly at Old Trafford.

PSG won the race for the former Inter Milan star in the summer of 2021, beating Chelsea to a £51 million deal.

Elsewhere, United continue to be strongly linked with a move for Ajax winger Antony with a fresh £79 million bid ready to be submitted.

What has Jones said on Hakimi?

Jones understands that a deal for the 23-year-old is unlikely this summer but United have made enquiries as to his availability at the Parc des Princes.

The transfer insider says that, if Hakimi becomes available, Ten Hag’s side are eager to ensure they are at the front of the queue.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Hakimi is unlikely. There have been tentative enquiries again on that one, because he was linked with Barcelona and United have looked at Hakimi before. If he's going to be available, they want to be in that conversation.”

Would Hakimi be a good signing for United?

The full-back’s arrival would certainly add a whole new dimension to how Ten Hag’s side is able to attack.

Hakimi has already scored two goals and provided one assist in three Ligue 1 games this season, taking his career total to 63 goal contributions - a frankly ridiculous tally.

By way of comparison, Dalot, who is also 23, has contributed just 12 times to goals while Aaron Wan-Bissaka has mustered 16 goals or assists.

Clearly, then, it is a part of the pitch in which United have plenty of room for improvement. It would therefore be a no-brainer to sign the £170,000 per-week star if the opportunity arises.
