Leeds United could complete the signing of FC Zurich striker Wilfried Gnonto before the summer window closes, but it may not immediately change things at Elland Road, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Jesse Marsch has overseen a busy few months in west Yorkshire but can still add to his squad ahead of the September 1 cut-off.

What is the latest news on Gnonto?

According to MailOnline, Leeds have enquired about the availability of Gnonto this summer, with the Whites hoping to seal a deal for £4 million.

The 18-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract and could be available at a cut-price fee.

However, reports in Italy have stated that Leeds have already had an offer of around £3.8 million rejected with FC Zurich valuing the youngster at £6.8 million.

A boost has come the way of the Whites, however, as it is understood that they have already struck an agreement with the four-cap Italy international over personal terms.

Gnonto has already caused a stir on the international scene, with the Azzurri manager Roberto Mancini describing the youngster as a striker “who can do anything.”

What has Jones said on a deal for Gnonto?

Jones understands that this is a deal that could well be completed before the deadline passes next week.

However, the transfer insider adds that Gnonto’s arrival is unlikely to shake things up too much at Elland Road moving forward.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I can see it happening. I don't know that this necessarily changes the dynamic of their starting XI or anything like that. I think this is more of a development signing.”

Would Gnonto be a good signing for Leeds?

Patrick Bamford is undoubtedly the number one striking option under Marsch as things stand, but support is needed.

Last season, Bamford missed 30 games through a number of injury issues, with Leeds narrowly clinching survival on the final day of the season.

It is a situation that Marsch will be desperate to avoid and, with Bamford once again sidelined, bringing in striking reinforcements could be key to that.

Gnonto undoubtedly has plenty of potential and has already shown he knows where the back of the net is, scoring 12 goals in 72 appearances for Zurich.

The club has already splashed £95 million on new recruits but are yet to recruit a new striker, so a move for Gnonto could be a very shrewd signing.
