Everton could make a late move to bring Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron to Goodison Park as he is 'on their radar', according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Toffees boss Frank Lampard has spent more than £30million on bolstering his squad since the summer window opened for business, but he could welcome further reinforcements to Merseyside ahead of the 11pm deadline on September 1.

According to The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons, Everton are showing an interest in Almiron with the closure of the transfer window looming.

Aarons suggests the 45-cap Paraguay international will only be allowed to leave Newcastle on a permanent deal and a loan proposal will not be entertained.

Newcastle broke their transfer record when they acquired Almiron in a £20million deal from Major League Soccer franchise Atlanta United three-and-a-half years ago.

But the creative midfielder has entered the final two years of his £74,000-per-week contract at St James' Park, meaning there is uncertainty over his long-term future.

Speaking to Versus Radio, via Newcastle World, agent Daniel Campos has revealed that a £60million release clause is written into Almiron's agreement.

Jones is expecting Almiron's Newcastle career to come to an end ahead of the September 1 deadline.

The transfer insider understands that Everton chief Lampard is keeping tabs on the 28-year-old's situation.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "There is some interest here and Almiron looks certain to be leaving Newcastle.

"Everton need options and he's one that they've got on their radar just in case it can happen."

Almiron has not made a huge impact in the Premier League, having only registered 13 goal contributions, so Everton should not break their transfer record by activating his £60million release clause.

However, he has made a promising start to the new campaign and got his name on the scoresheet as Newcastle drew with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City last weekend, so it may be shrewd business if Lampard can negotiate a cut-price deal.

Almiron has also scored more than 40 goals and laid on an abundance of assists over the course of his career, which shows that he is capable of being a major threat in the final third of the pitch.

The South American is not afraid to get involved in the defensive side of the game as well, with statistics showing he ranks in the 99th, 94th and 92nd percentiles for tackles, dribbles contested and pressures respectively among attacking midfielders and wingers competing in Europe's big five leagues over the last year.
