Arsenal are ‘still looking’ for a player to compliment their forward line in what remains of the transfer window, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Gunners have enjoyed a productive summer so far but remain in the market for additional attacking reinforcements ahead of September’s deadline.

What is the latest news involving Arsenal?

Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice have completed the signing of Nicolas Pepe on a season-long loan from Arsenal after the club’s record signing started just five Premier League games last term.

That has left Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson as the only options out wide for Mikel Arteta, with the latter last making a senior appearance for the capital club back in 2021/22.

Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira have arrived from Manchester City and FC Porto, respectively, to bolster Arsenal’s options in the final third of the pitch, but both players are most effective when lining up through the middle.

Therefore, signing another winger appears to be at the top of Arteta’s wish list in the final days of the window.

What has Sheth said about Arsenal?

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Sheth said: “People said, ‘look, Gabriel Jesus came in, so has that reduced the need to bring in somebody in the forward line?’

“Initially, you would have thought yes, simply because Jesus can play across the front three, but it's clear now that Mikel Arteta sees him as the striker. He is the number nine, so they are still looking for a player to augment that forward line.

“So, I think Arsenal will still be in the market. It won't be the be-all or end-all if they bring in someone in this window because I think, as Arteta and the club have shown, they're looking long-term.

“So, if they've got a long-term target and say, for example, it is Pedro Neto, and they can't get him in this transfer window, would they then spend big money on another target? Or would they just think, you know what, Neto is the guy who's going to change this team, let's wait.”

Who could Arsenal sign?

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that Wolves star Neto is at the top of Areta’s shortlist and that talks have been taking place for ‘more than a month’ over a potential deal.

Meanwhile, Spanish outlet AS have claimed that Arsenal have launched a €40 million (£33.8m) for Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino after the 19-year-old enjoyed a breakout season last time out.

And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now disclosed that Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen is a player that the north London outfit ‘love’, although admits it will not be ‘an easy signing’ to pull off.
