Tottenham could look to bring in a replacement for Bryan Gil simply to bolster their attacking numbers, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Despite his lack of first-team action, Antonio Conte has admitted that Spurs will be looking to replace anyone who leaves before 1 September's transfer deadline.

What's the latest news involving Tottenham?

According to the Evening Standard, Valencia are hoping to re-sign Gil, who spent the second half of last season on loan at the Mestalla.

But Conte stated after Spurs beat Wolves that any departures must be replaced, and that includes the 21-year-old, despite the fact he's never started a Premier League game.

"The squad is this and if someone goes away then another has to come," the Italian said. "This has to be very clear for everybody. Otherwise, we stay with this squad, and we continue our path with these players, this squad.

"But if someone has to go away, along another must come. This is very clear for me, for the club, but we are totally agreed on this aspect."

Beyond Gil, who earns £80,000 per-week, Conte has five forward players at his disposal, but Charlie Eccleshare told GiveMeSport that he wants another attacker in his squad.

Therefore, Sheth reckons that Tottenham won't necessarily be looking to bring in a like-for-like replacement for Gil, but someone to bolster Conte's squad and give him another option.

What did Sheth say about Tottenham?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Gil is an attack minded player, but they've got a lot of those at the club.

"Yes, they've let Steven Bergwijn go, but they've still got Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison.

"Richarlison can't start a game at the moment, he's coming off the bench and he came in for £60m. I think that says a lot about what Tottenham are doing and the competition they want, so not necessarily a replacement that goes straight into the team, but if Gil does go, maybe just a replacement just to make up more numbers within the squad."

Do Tottenham need to replace Gil?

Despite Conte's comments, Spurs still want to try and bring in another attacking player regardless of Gil's future.

He currently has four genuine wide options and two strikers at his disposal in Kane and Richarlison.

Conte is building an impressive squad, but Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele's departures mean that he doesn't have any recognised creators from central areas.

Therefore, an attacking midfielder looks on the agenda rather than a forward, to give him the ability to switch from a 3-4-3 to a 3-5-2, and remove a wide player and pack the midfield.
