Manchester United made it two wins from two as they beat Southampton in their Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils started the season off terribly as they opened with defeats against Brighton and Brentford.

But they went into the match in Hampshire high in confidence after defeating fierce rivals Liverpool on Monday evening.

And Erik ten Hag's side emerged victorious again as they won 1-0 at St Mary's Stadium.

Bruno Fernandes scored the only goal of the game in the second half.

Diogo Dalot charged down the wing in the 60th minute and cut the ball back to Fernandes just inside the box.

The Portuguese took the ball on the volley and his controlled effort found the corner of the net.

United went on to hold on to victory.

The scoreline could have been very different, though, had Southampton being given a second half penalty.

Che Adams controlled the ball inside the box with his chest. The ball then appeared to strike Scott McTominay's arm three times in quick succession.

Southampton's players and fans appealed passionately for a penalty to be given.

However, nothing was given at the time and VAR also decided against penalising the Scotsman.

Fortunately for United, neither the referee or VAR thought that a penalty should be given against McTominay and the Red Devils went on to secure all three points.

United have now moved into sixth having picked up six points in their opening four games.

Southampton are two points further back in 14th.

United are next in action when they take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Thursday evening.
