Chelsea could revisit a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo later this week, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Blues have been linked with the Manchester United star this window and Phillips reckons that if Chelsea haven't signed a striker close to the deadline, Ronaldo could still make the switch to Stamford Bridge.

What's the latest news involving Ronaldo?

Despite uncertainty surrounding his Old Trafford future, Ronaldo has featured in each of United's Premier League games, the latest of those coming as a second half substitute against Southampton.

But Ronaldo has found himself on the bench for the last two games, with Erik ten Hag preferring the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford through the middle.

The Portugal international, who has 142 United goals to his name, expressed his desire to leave earlier this summer following the Red Devils' failure to qualify for the Champions League last season.

Chelsea briefly registered their interest, with Todd Boehly meeting with Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, although Thomas Tuchel wasn't convinced on signing the forward.

But the Blues head into the final days of the transfer window with Kai Havertz and Armando Broja as their only central options.

As a result, Phillips reckons that if Chelsea haven't filled the void left by Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku, then a move for Ronaldo is still possible.

What did Phillips say about Ronaldo?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "If Chelsea haven't got a striker in, and Tuchel still wants a striker, if Ronaldo does become more attainable at the end of the window and there's a deal there to be done, I can definitely see it being on the table."

Who started up front against Leicester?

Despite his sluggish form in the early weeks of the season, Havertz was once again given the nod to start alongside Raheem Sterling.

The German once again failed to find the net, but fortunately for Chelsea, Sterling scored his first goals for the club to help the Blues collect three much-needed points.

Conor Gallagher's early red card meant that Tuchel's side had to weather a Leicester storm, which saw them have 17 attempts on goal, although the west Londoners stood firm despite Harvey Barnes' 66th minute strike.

Chelsea being down to 10 men has to be considered, but Broja was left on the bench, which suggests that Tuchel isn't overly convinced by him and wants reinforcements before the window closes.
