Toto Wolff has said that young drivers need to be careful with what they post on social media following Oscar Piastri's tweet about not driving for Alpine.

Piastri caused quite the stir on social media over the first week of the summer break after he took to Twitter to say that he had not agreed to drive for Alpine in 2023 and that he would not be doing so, following on from the team's announcement that he had been promoted for next year, from the junior programme, to replace Fernando Alonso.

A lot has obviously been said, too, about the post and just where Piastri will find himself if he does not end up joining McLaren, as has been touted, for 2023, as it was obviously quite a punchy thing to be saying about a potential drive in F1.

Otmar Szafnauer even questioned some elements of Piastri's integrity after apparently agreeing a deal with Alpine to be promoted should the opportunity arise, and so the young Aussie has unfortunately received a bit of heat from some quarters for his post.

Toto Wolff has said that that should serve as a reminder to young drivers to respect those that have helped bring them through the ranks, as Alpine have with Piastri, though he did not want to get too involved in the blame game:

“I have bigger problems to enjoy [than to] sit on the balcony like in The Muppet Show, to watch the show pan out in front of my eyes.

“I think it’s important that junior programmes are being respected. I think some of the kids should be wary of what they say on Twitter about multinational organisations.

“But I have no insight into the contract. I believe in karma. I believe in integrity. But I’m not here to judge because as I said, I don’t know the legal situation.”
