Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag could look to bolster his Old Trafford squad by landing Antony and Cody Gakpo ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Red Devils have not been afraid to splash the cash since the summer window opened for business, having forked out close to £130million, but further reinforcements may be drafted in ahead of Thursday's 11pm cut-off point.

What's the latest news involving Antony and Gakpo?

Sheth has revealed that Manchester United are still interested in PSV Eindhoven winger Gakpo despite ongoing talks over 22-year-old Ajax star Antony.

The Red Devils have been frustrated in their attempts to land Antony and a proposal worth £76.3million was rejected earlier this week.

However, Manchester United could be on the cusp of making a breakthrough as they are reportedly close to agreeing a deal worth £84.8million, including add-ons, and the move is expected to accelerate within the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, according to Football Insider, a £25million take-it-or-leave-it bid has been lodged for Gakpo.

The report suggests ten Hag has given the green light to strike a deal for the seven-cap Netherlands international.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about the duo?

Sheth is refusing to rule out the possibility of Antony and Gakpo completing a switch to Manchester United ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

The Sky Sports reporter has no doubt that the Red Devils are desperate to sign Antony, but he still believes a swoop for Gakpo is in the offing.

Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: "I think United are interested in Gakpo. Whether it's as an alternative to Antony or in addition, I've not been told one way or the other just yet.

"I don't think you can rule out United trying to get both."

Would Antony and Gakpo be good signings for Manchester United?

There is no doubt that ten Hag knows how to get the best out of nine-cap Brazil international Antony.

They worked together at Ajax and, during that spell, the attacker scored 22 goals and racked up a further 20 assists in 79 appearances.

Gakpo is also potent in the final third of the pitch, which is emphasised by his record of more than 80 goal contributions in the early stages of his club career.

While signing both of the Eredivisie stars has been described as 'unlikely but not impossible', the future of Cristiano Ronaldo could play a huge role in Manchester United's plans.

Ronaldo is looking to secure a move away from Old Trafford and moves for 23-year-old Gakpo, along with Antony, would be shrewd if the Portuguese star gets his wish.
