Leeds United signing Southampton striker Che Adams before Thursday’s transfer deadline isn’t on the cards as things stand, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

Thornton has previously told GIVEMESPORT that the Whites remain in the market for a forward if they are to add another player to their squad before the window slams shut later this week.

What’s the latest on Leeds’ bid to sign a new attacker?

The Yorkshire outfit’s number one target earlier in the summer appeared to be Club Brugge’s Charles de Ketelaere in a big-money deal following the exit of Raphinha to Barcelona, but the versatile Belgian forward opted to join Serie A giants AC Milan instead.

The desire to bring in a new face has potentially become less of a necessity with Patrick Bamford initially back in action at the beginning of the campaign before suffering an injury issue against Southampton, while Rodrigo has netted four Premier League goals in his opening four top-flight fixtures so far this campaign.

Saints striker Adams is someone who has long been linked with a move to Elland Road – dating back to 2020 – and he has been mentioned with Leeds again this summer with rumours suggesting that the south coast outfit would be willing to cash in on the Scotland international for the right money.

What did Thornton say about Che Adams?

The senior reporter from Sky Sports told GMS: “I think that was one that they were looking at in the past. While obviously there's still an interest and he’s still the same player that they identified, he’s in-form at the moment with a couple of goals [recently].

"So I think, again, if he was to become available there's a chance but he's not a name that I'm being told is imminent for Leeds.”

Who are Leeds most likely to sign?

It’s difficult to say, but there does appear to be at least a few names ahead of Adams in the pecking order for Jesse Marsch and the hierarchy.

One of those is FC Zurich teenager Wilfried Gnonto, who has appeared the for the Italian senior national side and could be available for a cut-price fee.

Another name mentioned heavily in recent weeks is Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Hwang Hee-chan, with Marsch reportedly keen to add the South Korean to his attacking options.

With just days left of the window, we don’t have long to find out who director of football Victor Orta can land – if anyone at all following a good start to proceedings this term.
