Paris Saint-Germain dropped their first points of the Ligue 1 season with a 1-1 draw against AS Monaco on Sunday night.The reigning champions have made a storming start to the 2022/23 season under Christophe Galtier with three high-scoring victories from their opening three games in the French top-flight.Having routed Clermont 5-0, annihilated Montpellier 5-2 and obliterated Lille 7-1, Monaco must have been fearing for the worst when they travelled to the Parc des Princes this weekend.

Or at least, that's what you would have thought on paper because Philippe Clement's men actually gave a very good account of themselves to prove that PSG aren't quite as omnipotent as they seem.

That's because the principality club managed to snatch a point courtesy of Kevin Volland opening the scoring in the first-half, beating Gianluigi Donnarumma with a ruthless left-footed finish.

That alone was always going to give Monaco a foothold in the game, but holding onto any sort of lead when you're facing Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe is a seriously tall order.

And while they eventually managed to drag themselves over the line with a 1-1 draw, it most certainly wasn't without some close shaves along the way.

Monaco ride their luck

In the end, Neymar bagged an equaliser from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, but the Parisians really ought to have levelled the scores long before that when Mbappe was presented with an open goal before the break.

It was an opportunity carved out by none other than Messi, but not in the manner you'd imagine as he himself took aim at goal as opposed to channeling the playmaking magic we all know he possesses.

That's because the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner almost replicated his screamer against PSG from 2021 when he took aim with a ferocious long-range strike that seemed destined for the back of the net.

Mbappe's open goal miss

However, one big fat thump against the post meant that Monaco survived that particular scare, only for another one to present itself as the ball duly fell into the path of Mbappe.

With Alexander Nübel in a bundle on the turf having desperately dived after Messi's strike, Mbappe had the goal at his mercy to ensure that PSG went into the interval with the scores level.

And while it was by no means a straightforward conversion with the ball pinging back in his direction at speed, it was nevertheless exactly the type of opportunity that you'd expect arguably the world's best player to gobble up with their eyes closed.

A frustrating night for Mbappe

While even the greatest players of all time have their dodgy moments in front of goal, Mbappe will definitely look back on that chance when he gets home tonight and wonder what might have been.

All in all, it was a poor day at the office for Mbappe in the context of his dizzying standards, missing two big chances, conceding possession 17 times and only completing two of his six dribbles.

Don't get us wrong, we're being hypercritical, but lest we forget that we're talking about a star so talented and gifted that he could well be hoovering up multiple Ballon d'Or titles in the future.

So it's certainly not unreasonable to think that Mbappe might well spend an extra few minutes on the training pitch next week to ensure he's hitting the net and not the post next time out...
