Newcastle forward Allan Saint-Maximin's agent have been trying to get him a better contract at St James' Park, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The flying winger has been in exceptional form at the beginning of the Premier League season and has some of Europe's top clubs on his radar.

What's the latest news involving Saint-Maximin?

According to The Athletic, both Tottenham and Chelsea and a 'few' European sides are interested in the Frenchman and have made 'tentative enquiries via intermediaries,' with PIF valuing him at £40m.

Saint-Maximim has scored once, a stunning late equaliser at Wolves to rescue a draw and registered two assists to help Newcastle make an unbeaten start in their first four matches of the campaign.

It's been a promising start to what could be a big season for the wide man, who the Magpies will be hoping can finally put together some consistency after scoring 11 top-flight goals in his first three years.

The report from The Athletic claims that despite having just under four years left on his current deal, a contract extension has been discussed, with Saint-Maximim earning £38,000 per week, making him one of the club's lowest paid players.

And Talbot reckons that while there's interest in his services, he thinks that it's coming from Saint-Maximin's side in order to get him a better package.

What did Talbot say about Saint-Maximin?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "There's been some noises that he's trying to get a better contract, he's agent trying to get him a better contract, I'd imagine his agent is making lots of noise."

How has Saint-Maximin performed this season?

According to WhoScored, the ex-Nice star has been Newcastle's top performer, with his 7.48 rating putting him in the top 12 players in the entire Premier League.

While he's scored just once in four matches, he's led the way for Eddie Howe's side, averaging the most shots per 90 minutes (3), the second-most key passes (1.8), which helped him claimed two assists against Manchester City, while he makes the most successful dribbles in the squad.

Saint-Maximin's downfall at Newcastle has often been his lack of consistent attacking output, but with three goal contributions in four games, he's already on course to produce his best season to date in English football.

But the winger made a blistering start to 2021-2022 and then tailed off, so that'll be the challenge for him this term.
