Wolverhampton Wanderers could make an ‘exciting’ acquisition in the shape of Ajax attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus, according to journalist Josh Holland.

The Midlands outfit have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old in recent days as they look to improve their threat in the final third of the pitch following a slow start to the season.

What is the latest news involving Kudus?

Ghana Soccernet have reported that Wolves are the latest Premier League side to enter the race for Kudus’ signature despite the current transfer window closing imminently.

It’s claimed that Bruno Lage’s charges want to take the youngster on a season-long loan, while Everton and Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest in his services, which could cost £9 million.

Wolves are supposedly set to open talks with Kudus’ representatives with the Ghana international eager to secure more game time ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

So far in 2022/23, Kudus has only received 28 minutes of action in the Eredivisie, failing to start any of Ajax’s opening four league games under new manager Alfred Schreuder.

And as a result, the creative talent could be the latest departure from the Johan Cruijff ArenA, following in the footsteps of Lisandro Martinez, Sebastien Haller and Nicolas Tagliafico this summer.

What has Holland said about Kudus?

Holland doesn’t believe Ajax would be open to sanction Kudus’ departure, though, especially if Antony completes his big-money move to Manchester United.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “I think most attacking players from Ajax are exciting.

“I think it was after they beat Sparta Rotterdam, the manager said that we've already sold numerous key players like Martinez, Haller, (Ryan) Gravenberch, Tagliafico.

“I can't see them, especially if Antony goes to United, I can't see them letting another young, exciting attacking player go.”

Would Kudus be a good signing?

Kudus has only made 104 senior club appearances in his short career, racking up 27 goal contributions along the way, but he is certainly not without his admirers.

Erik ten Hag once described the 5 foot 10 ace as having “incredible potential” during their time together in Amsterdam, while journalist Owuraku Ampofo labelled him a “special talent”.

Kudus has also claimed two Eredivisie titles and one Dutch Cup with Ajax without ever cementing his place in the starting XI, and it seems as though he is now eager for a more important role.
