Lisandro Martinez put in another strong performance in Manchester United's victory against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The Argentine was in the starting lineup for his side's match at St Mary's Stadium.

The Red Devils were looking to win their second consecutive match, following their 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Monday evening.

And they managed to record back-to-back wins with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Southampton.

Bruno Fernandes scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute.

The Portuguese showed brilliant technique to volley Diogo Dalot's cross into the corner of the net.

Martinez was impressive as his side kept their first clean-sheet of the season.

The Argentine, who signed for United in a massive money move from Ajax this summer, left everything on the pitch.

Martinez has passion and commitment in abundance and he showed that with his reaction to David de Gea's crucial save in the second half.

Southampton looked like they would equalise when Adam Armstrong's inviting cross was met by Joe Aribo.

However, De Gea produced a superb reaction save to deny the Nigerian midfielder. Kyle Walker-Peters then saw his header fly over the bar.

Martinez was animated as he showed his appreciating to De Gea for preserving their clean sheet. His reaction to De Gea's save has been posted on to Twitter by @ManUnitedZone_. View it below...

Martinez has only been a United player for a month or so but he's already becoming a fan-favourite.

The 24-year-old was given the Man of the Match award for his superb display.

But talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor was not impressed as he made his feelings known.

“When the ball was on the floor or when it was played in, he did okay today,” Agbonlahor said. “But, whenever the ball was played in the air today, Che Adams had the better of him.

“Just physically, he kept on guessing to try and get in front and Che Adams would turn him, but he did win his fair share of headers today. And, it’s a clean sheet so it is hard to judge him.

“I feel when physical strikers start to play on him, I’m not judging him off [Roberto] Firmino who kept dropping off on Monday night. I’m going to judge him off proper strikers who are going to back into him and try to bully him and today Che Adams did a decent job.

“There were moments when Che Adams got the ball into his body and he just out-powered him. So I am thinking when he [Martinez] plays against the likes of Nunez, Haaland, these physical strikers, I think he is going to need some help.

“Maybe from a Varane, or maybe they will play a three at the back and bring Maguire in. But, a clean sheet, you can’t complain.”
