Tyson Fury is in talks to face Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed heavyweight title fight in 2023.

On Saturday night, ESPN reporter Mark Kriegel reported that Fury's US promoters Top Rank are looking at the possibility of having the pair face one another on Super Bowl weekend, which takes place in Arizona on February 12.

The news has taken the boxing world by storm, with many hoping to get the chance to see them crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

Kriegel was asked about the potential matchup during a live broadcast on ESPN and revealed that Fury vs Usyk is indeed in the works.

“It’s going to happen," Kriegel said regarding Fury vs Usyk.

Kriegel then went on to reveal that financial terms won't be a problem as they have both agreed to split it straight down the middle to avoid any possible delay.

“How do I know this? What’s the source of contention in the lead-up to every big fight? The purse split," the best-selling author added.

“Is it 70-30, 60-40? This one is going to be 50-50. I spoke to Bob Arum today. He said that is a given.

"My other sources agree. So, we have one point of contention completely out of the way, or supposedly. That’s welcome news, proof to me the fight’s going to happen.”

However it is unlikely to take place in the UK as Kriegel all but poured cold water on the idea citing extreme weather conditions at that time of the year.

He continued: “Now as to when? You may have seen reports this week that the Saudis want to host it in December. Don’t hold your breath on that.

"Quote, ‘highly unlikely,’ according to Arum and others I spoke to. Likely date now: February, Super Bowl weekend, or maybe the week after, probably the Middle East, but not necessarily Saudi Arabia. Remember, there’s also Abu Dhabi, could be a player, Qatar could be a player, and still an outside shot that the UK gets it.

 “It will not be in Wembley. Don’t listen to that stuff. It’s winter.

"You know, you need to protect the fighters from the elements. That would be an 80,000 indoor seat arena in Cardiff [Wales] - if it’s the UK."
