Manchester United are set to pull off 'such an important deal' as Ajax talisman Antony is 'on his way' to Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils have already parted with close to £130million in a bid to improve new boss Erik ten Hag's squad, but they are on the verge of sealing another big-money acquisition.

What's the latest news involving Antony?

According to The Guardian, Manchester United are poised to sign Antony after agreeing an £84million fee with reigning Eredivisie champions Ajax.

The report suggests the nine-cap Brazil international has already agreed a contract which will run until 2027, although the deal boasts the option of being extended by another 12 months, and he is expected to put pen-to-paper today.

Manchester United, who are under new management following ten Hag's move into the Old Trafford dugout at the conclusion of last season, have been made to fight for Antony's services.

A proposal worth £76.3million was rejected by Ajax last week, while offers of close to £68million and £51million were also turned down earlier in the transfer window.

It is understood that Antony handed in a transfer request as he attempted to push through a switch to the Red Devils ahead of Thursday's 11pm deadline.

What has Dean Jones said about Antony?

Jones understands that Antony is on the verge of joining Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez in making the move to Manchester United.

The journalist feels finally getting a deal for the Ajax man over the line shows the Red Devils' hierarchy have backed ten Hag in the transfer market.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on Monday, Jones said: "The moment has finally arrived and Antony is on his way.

"It's not quite a club-record fee, but it's not too far off. I think you can see here that ten Hag sees this as such an important deal after signing Casemiro, Eriksen, Malacia and Lisandro Martinez.

"He's been backed in this window. He's got most of the things that he wanted up to this point. This is later than he wanted it, but he's getting it all now."

What will Antony add to Manchester United's squad?

Ten Hag knows how to get the best out of Antony as the winger found the back of the net 22 times and racked up a further 20 assists in 79 appearances while the now-Manchester United chief was in charge at Ajax.

The 22-year-old has registered 56 goal contributions during the early stages of his club career, emphasising that he will be a major threat in the final third of the pitch.

Statistics show that Antony averaged more goals, assists and shots on target than Marcus Rashford, Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho last season, so it could be argued that the Brazilian will be an upgrade on Manchester United's current wide options.
